In my past, before I started to live as a vegan, I could eat a piece of meat and thus ignore the suffering, exploitation of death of the nonhuman victims.
I could drink a glass of milk, and thus ignore/be unaware of that I destroyed a family of cows, that I tore a calf away from her mother, and that the male calves and milk cows (when their productive declined) eventually ended up on the slaughter house.
In my past I could kill a mosquito and thus ignore/be unaware of that I killed a living sentient being.
I could catch a fish in the ocean, ignore/be unaware of the enormous suffering that I was causing, and that I was taking the life of a sentient being with an interest of living.
I could eat an egg and not caring/be unaware of that chickens were exploited, bred to be our resources, their families were destroyed, their male chicks were killed, and they ended up on the slaughter house when their productivity declined.
In my past I could wear leather and ignore/be unaware of that this leather came from a sentient cow, that was exploited to become my shoes and my wallet. I could wear wool and ignore/be unaware of that the sheep used for wool was exploited for this purpose and eventually killed.
I could visit a zoo and not caring/be unaware of that this was a prison of sentient beings, with an interest of freedom, being exploited for entertainment, and that many of the animals in the zoo were killed to be replaced by other animals – all for the sake of our entertainment.
In my past I could attend a circus ignoring/be unaware of that these animals were exploited for my entertainment, that their lives were control and freedom ignored.
I could buy a dog from a breeder, disregarding the interests of the animals, and paying for her to be ripped away from her precious mother and family; and paying for that animals should be breed up to a live that would be unnatural to them, where the are to a large extent controlled/limited by their owner (e.g. what to eat, when and where to go out, etc.).
In my past I could justify vivisection and claim that our lives are more valuable than theirs, exploiting and shortening the lives of other animals so that humans should find cures to live longer.
I could use and exploit animals in various other ways, treating them as my resources/property and ignoring their interests, instead of respecting them as sentient beings and respecting their interests.
Then I woke up. I became aware. I decided that I don’t want to be a part of exploiting, harming and killing sentient beings. I realized that I have to leave behind my egoistic and self-centered ego that could justify exploiting animals for convenience, pleasure, tradition or justifying it with other various excuses; and I decided to live a life of nonviolence and justice. I decided to stop victimizing and bullying other animals. I rejected speciesism and chose to be vegan.
Now I realize how many lives I have murdered, how many families that I have destroyed, how many animals that I have exploited and harmed. I am truly and sincerely sorry and regretful for all of the harm that I have caused others.

Dairy cows get impregnated without their consent
We should be gagging on our organic Greek yogurt. Consider this image of a man with an arm shoved up a dairy cow’s rectum with a probe on the end, looking at a computer monitor to determine when it is best to impregnate her, while her head is locked in a restraint. Our deplorable behavior toward other animals would be considered rape, if the subject were another human being (the law defines rape as penetration without consent and animals of course cannot give their consent). But because she is “just an animal,” we claim our rape is suddenly justifiable? And when rape is performed for economic reasons, it’s suddenly acceptable? And because we use technology and gadgetry to control female reproduction, it’s suddenly an advance instead of an offense? This is cruelty, arrogance, hypocrisy, prejudice and faulty logic.
Learn all about how dairy cows are forcibly impregnated, what animal agriculture euphemistically calls “artificial insemination,” at http://freefromharm.org/animal-cruelty-investigation/the-sexual-violation-of-dairy-cows-14-step-process-of-artificial-insemination/

Raw milk vs a starch-based vegan diet, health benefits?
If you want are willing to study I recommend you to read this debate, which includes people who once in their lifetime thought raw milk was good for the human body: http://www.drmcdougall.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27604
Milk is very nutrient dense for baby calves. Just because that it contains nutrients doesn't mean that the human body is able to absorb all these nutrients, and that it isn't detrimental for human health.
A vegan starch-based diet prevents stiffness in the joints, see e.g.: http://www.drmcdougall.com/stars/star06_jean-brown.html
and doesn't harm any animals, as is done in the dairy industry, and which the milk consumer pays for.

Vegan reply to counter argument: But…Isn’t eating animal products, meat, milk, eggs, etc., natural?
If our body was designed for meat consumption, humans wouldn't get these problems: http://vimeo.com/15787322 , http://www.adelicatebalance.com.au/
Meat in large quantities is not dangerous for an omnivore.
I don't understand this "human nature"/natural-argument.
It is also discussed here:
Question 5: Isn’t human use of animals a “tradition,” or “natural,” and therefore morally justified?Answer: Every form of discrimination in the history of humankind has been defended as “traditional.” Sexism is routinely justified on the ground that it is traditional for women to be subservient to men: “A woman’s place is in the home.” Human slavery has been a tradition in most cultures at some times. The fact that some behavior can be described as traditional has nothing to do with whether the behavior is or is not morally acceptable.
In addition to relying on tradition, some characterize our use of animals as “natural” and then declare it to be morally acceptable. Again, to describe something as natural does not in itself say anything about the morality of the practice. In the first place, just about every form of discrimination ever practiced has been described as natural as well as traditional. The two notions are often used interchangeably. We have justified human slavery as representing a natural hierarchy of slave owners and slaves. We have justified sexism as representing the natural superiority of men over women. Moreover, it is a bit strange to describe our modern commodification of animals as natural in any sense of the word. We have created completely unnatural environments and agricultural procedures in order to maximize profits. We do bizarre experiments in which we transplant genes and organs from animals into humans and vice versa. We are now cloning animals. None of this can be described as natural. Labels such as “natural” and “traditional” are just that: labels. They are not reasons. If people defend the imposition of pain and suffering on an animal based on what is natural or traditional, it usually means that they cannot otherwise justify their conduct.
Quote: www.abolitionistapproach.com/faqs/
----
There is no doubt that we can live a very healhty life on a vegan diet:
“It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes.” — Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association)
Thus, eating animal foods is inflicting unnecessary harm and death upon animals, and this we all agree is morally wrong.

---------------------More arguments:
Quote from www.eatlikeyoucarebook.com/ :
This “But” is like saying
that God wants us to eat animals but we don’t need to bother with God. Something else that is big and
important—nature— wants us to eat animals. If we don’t eat animals,we are acting against
nature. We are behaving in
an unnatural way. That’s powerful stuff—even if you’re an atheist. In fact, “But Natural” is
like “But God” without God. It seeks
to establish necessity, but without God. But why do we think that nature intends, whatever that means, that
we eat animals? The usual response is to say that we are physically adapted to eat meat and other animal
products.
Putting aside that many
people are lactose intolerant, and that many physicians are pointing out that
animal products are detrimental to human health, the most we can
say is that we can eat animal products; there is nothing about
our bodies that suggests that our bodies are designed to do so. Humans compare
physically much more to herbivores than to carnivores. Carnivores have well-developed
claws. We don’t have claws. We also lack the sharp front teeth carnivorous
animals need. Although we still have canine teeth, they are not sharp and
cannot be used in the way carnivorous animals use their sharp canine teeth. We
have flat molar teeth, as seen in herbivores, such as sheep, that we use for
grinding. Carnivores have a short intestinal tract so that they can quickly
expel decaying meat. Herbivores have a much longer intestinal tract as do
humans. Herbivores and humans have weak stomach acid relative to carnivores who
have strong hydrochloric acid in their stomachs to digest meat. Herbivorous
animals have well-developed salivary glands for pre-digesting fruits and grains
and have alkaline saliva that is needed to predigest grains, as do humans.
Carnivorous animals do not have similar salivary glands and have acid saliva.
(..) And, as we stated earlier, the evidence is quite clear that we don’t need animal products to be optimally healthy. You would think that if we were intended to eat animal products, those of us who don’t (and haven’t for decades) would suffer deleterious health effects. But we don’t. We do just fine. We have to make sure we get vitamin B-12, which humans do not manufacture, or at least not in reliable quantities. But all humans have to get B-12 from somewhere. Carnivores get it from meat; vegans get it from nutritional yeast, other fortified food, or supplements. But all B-12 comes from microorganisms. (..)
So while there is
considerable evidence that animal foods are detrimental to human health, we don’t
want to get into a battle of studies here to convince you that it’s healthier
not to eat animal products. We do, however, want to make clear that the very
best a consumer of animal products can say is that her diet is no better than
that of someone who eats a balanced diet of non-animal foods.
In sum, there is no
evidence that nature requires that we eat animal products. Indeed, the extant evidence
is to the contrary." End of quote.
More Resources:
Humans have no known anatomical, physiological, or genetic adaptations to meat consumption.
We have many adaptations to plant consumption.
Vitamin C is found in plants. We can’t make it ourselves such as carnivores.

IgE mediated allergies and dairy vs. a vegan diet?
Here is a post relating to IgE mediated allergies written by Jeff Novick, RD:
"However, in regard to the situation you described above, you do not have to go through the process of doing a full elimination diet (or allergy testing) as your main concern is one food, which we already know is highly reactive and implicated in this situation. As you may know, there are many health professionals, myself included, that beleive dairy is the single worst food humans could be consuming and the one food we would all eliminate from the food supply if we could.
A full elimination diet does take time and effort because it is a slow process. However, in regard to eczema, there is enough evidence to just encourage any parent to just begin by eliminating dairy.

If your nutritionist or immunologist doesn't now that dairy is bad for your health, I think you shouldn't trust their competence.
Please do your research instead of relying on people who lack knowledge.
There are many nutritionist that know dairy is bad for your health. Some claim that it is good. Obviously, many of the nutritionists are very wrong.
Dairy is foods for cows and its composition is good for calves when they are growing up. It has never been an ideal food for humans, and it is detrimental for human health. I have shared plenty of resources to you, and if you are interested of your health, and to stop exploiting animals, you should be willing to study this. Please do.

Health, calcium and a vegan diet? No milk is needed for optimal health!
I don't have time to write a long reply now, but I will answer about calcium.
Milk doesen't give you stronger bones.
A recent metaanalysis published in the October 2006 issue of the British Medical Journal found, “The small effect of calcium supplementation on bone mineral density in the upper limb is unlikely to reduce the risk of fracture, either in childhood or later life, to a degree of major public health importance.”12 The authors state, “Our results do not support the premise that any type of supplementation is more effective than another.” Their findings mean dairy products are of no real-life bone-strengthening benefits. Even studies that used intakes of 1400 mg per day of calcium showed no benefit.
An editorial accompanying this metaanalysis pointed out, “Populations that consume the most cow's milk and other dairy products have among the highest rates of osteoporosis and hip fracture in later life.” 13 So does this mean consuming dairy products will hurt your bones?
Please read all of this article: http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2007nl/feb/whenfriendsask.htm
In fact it is the western diet with all animal foods that causes oesteoporis.

Eating eggs hurts and kills more animals compared to eating meat
Some just asked by PM where I got the egg figures from. Here's the article: http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/2011/08/11/want-to-kill-fewer-animals-give-up-eggs-not-meat/ Based on the data she uses, her analysis seems right.
According to some animal advocates, it's Meatless Monday. But there is no morally coherent distinction between meat and other animal foods. And if you consume eggs, you are responsible for more animal deaths than if you eat beef or pork. So if you care about animals, go vegan today. And every day.

Stop hurting and exploiting animals. Go vegan!
----
As we’ve said above, there is no morally coherent distinction between meat and other animal products. Dairy and eggs also involve suffering and death. In fact, if you stop eating beef and get the same number of calories from eggs, you may actually be responsible for more animal suffering and death given that laying hens are usually killed after one or two laying cycles and all the male chicks born to laying hens are killed immediately. In any event, the meat, dairy , and egg industries are inextricably intertwined. They all necessarily involve suffering; they all necessarily involve death. To stop eating meat but to continue to eat dairy is morally arbitrary and similar to a decision to stop eating meat from spotted cows but to continue to eat meat from brown cows. It makes no sense.
Consumption of any animal products, absent your being stranded on a desert island or adrift on a lifeboat, with no plant foods available, is completely inconsistent with the conventional wisdom we claim to accept. As we discussed above, the good first step is not consuming “happy” animal products or making an arbitrary distinction between meat and other animal products and not eating the former but continuing to eat the latter. The good first step, if you don’t feel able to go vegan immediately, is to do it in stages, starting with breakfast and continuing on.

Why eating meat, milk and other animal products is causing animals unnecessary suffering and death

“So let’s apply the analysis that we all agreed was uncontroversial to using animals for food: have we got a good reason? Is there any necessity involved? The short answer: no. But wait! Don’t we need to eat animals and animal products to be healthy? No. No one maintains that it’s medically necessary to eat animal foods. The extremely conservative Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, formerly the American Dietetic Association, has stated: It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy , childhood , and adolescence, and for athletes. [1] And mainstream physicians are, with increasing frequency, pointing out that animal products are actually detrimental to human health. We could now embark on a long discussion of the many studies that show that animal products are harming our health but we don’t need to because whether or not you agree that consuming animal foods is detrimental, there is certainly no argument that animal foods are necessary for optimal health. That is , even if we do not believe that we will be more healthy if we eat a sensible vegan diet, we cannot reasonably believe we will be less healthy.”

You are claiming that you have a necessity for eating animal products, that it doesn't constitute 'unnecessary suffering' as dog fighting does, if I understand you correctly. This isn't correct. You don’t have any necessity. You will be even healthier eating a vegan diet. So if you continue to consume animal products you do it despite that you have any necessity for it. And hurting and killing animals despite the lack of necessity is unethical.

Israel -land of milk and honey? Animal exploitation and myths
Hello
Have a nice journey in Israel!!
“land of milk n honey, here I come!! “
Speaking of milk, have you ever thought of what is involved in the milking process? In order to milk animals, wild animals who all want to live in freedom had to be domesticated. Someone had to confine them and steal their freedom, and to breed them and enslave them. I wish that we could extend love and compassion to all living beings and make vegan choices that doesn’t hurt other living beings. For all living beings want to live and don’t want to get killed, exploited and enslaved by us, and all living beings have the right to live and not to get killed and exploited by us. i recommend these articles: http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/what-michael-vick-taught-us/ and www.vegankit.com

"Joseph Campbell, when asked the reason for myths by Bill Moyer, said
that the main reason for myths and stories is to somehow reconcile our
abuse and killing of animals for food. We create enormous rituals with
religious significance because I think we feel guilty about confining
animals. The worst thing you can do to a being is put them in prison;
putting someone in jail is a punishment. These cows are owned. Their
sovereignty is stolen from them by human beings so they can have their
milk. They are not allowed to live their lives freely in nature and we
would all like to be able to live our lives freely. I think there is no
need, personally, for ghee to be healthy. Certainly there are many
cultures that survive without having ghee. In the fullness of time,
hopefully this will be seen to be something we can let go of. I would

PETA endorses Burger King's "Veggie" burger, which contains milk, eggs and animal exploitation
Hello Jill,
“Thank you for your post and for the links that you shared. I would be happy to share some links with you, too! Best wishes,”
Thanks! Best wishes to you also!
I understand that you sincerely believe in PETA and their methods.
I don’t have the time to comment everything you write at the moment, but I would like to comment your statement:
“Because of PETA, even Burger King now has a "BK Veggie" burger!.”
It contains eggs and milk.
PETA promotes Burger King and their animal exploitation-burger under their section ‘Eating Vegan at Fast Food Chain Restaurants ‘ and they are celebrating and promoting Burger King for what certainly is animal exploitation.
So PETA’s supporters will believe that they are helping the animals by [lacto-ovo]-“vegetarianism”, which is a label that makes people feel good about exploiting animals, skipping the meat, but still exploiting animals by consuming milk and eggs. Calling milk and eggs and label it vegetarian or veggie is certainly normalizing the animal exploitation - labelling it as being the same as "veggies" [vegetables].
Some other problems with PETA:
PETA gives awards to various vendors of “happy” meat and animal products;
PETA, along with other animal groups, has enthusiastically endorsed the Whole Foods “Animal Compassionate” program/label;
PETA gave an award in 2004 to Temple Grandin, the designer of “happy” slaughter houses and what Grandin calls the “stairway to heaven” system of slaughter;
PETA announces and then calls off boycotts of institutional animal users such as Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King and praises those companies for their supposed concern for animal welfare;
PETA praises McDonald’s as “actually ‘leading the way’ in reforming the practices of fast-food suppliers, in the treatment and the killing of its beef and poultry.”
To say that this does not constitute support for “happy” or “humane” exploitation is simply not correct.

How a vegan feels about seeing meat, milk, eggs and other animal products
How a vegan feels about seeing meat, milk, eggs and other animal products:
I saw a dead chicken on my newsfeed. I was saddened by his death. Not only me, but also his family and friends.
Before his death he was living as a slave, bred up and used,
unnecessary exploited, treated as property, a life full of suffering and
misery, treated as a commodity. We speak about love, nonviolence and
respect; but our plates are filled with unnecessary violence, suffering
and exploitation.
Why not look at the situation in the eyes of the victim, the animal that gets abused.
Why not extend our love, compassion and justice to all species.
After all, whether we are consciousness in a human body or in a chicken
body or any other body, doesn't change the reality that we are sentient
beings with a desire and right to live.
Dog abuse for enjoyment is morally wrong. Unnecessary killing of dogs or
chickens for taste and pleasure is morally no different, since we can get all nutrition through a vegan diet. [More info here: http:// www.abolitionistapproach.com/ what-michael-vick-taught-us/ ]

Claims of "health benefits" of drinking probiotic milk or eating fish does not justify exploitation of animals
You
wrote” That being said, I'm not sure if humans consuming a little
animal products is blatantly immoral if it is what our bodies are
conditioned to do, and in some instances, like eating fish and probiotic
dairy, can benefit our bodies in ways that are difficult to
synthesize.”
Even if there was any health benefit of consuming animal products this wouldn’t justify us to breed animals into slavery, to use them, to exploit them, to hurt them and to kill them, just in order to get the health benefits. Just as any potential health benefit of drinking human milk for human adults, wouldn’t justify us to exploit a human mother. To get cow milk you have to impregnate a cow without her approval, to breed a baby into an existence of slavery and to coerce the cow into milking. This is what is done in the cow milk industry. Most humans understand that doing the exact same thing to a human woman is unethical. Most people don’t understand that doing this to a woman of the species ‘cow’ is unethical. Our culture justifies the exploitation of a cow because of being vastly influenced by the erroneous and immoral ideology of speciecism – discrimination based on species.
Domestication of animals is violence, it is slavery, and it has also resulted in human slavery, oppression against women, and other forms of oppression that is rampant in our society. Breeding an animal into captivity is morally wrong. Everyone understands this is the case with humans; however because of the vast influence of speciecism most people don’t understand it is wrong to breed an animal into captivity and to a life being controlled by a human. More of why domestication is wrong can be found here: http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/animal-rights-and-domesticated-nonhumans/#.UZvJ45xYV8E
“Speciesism and human slavery are similar in that in all cases animals and enslaved humans have a basic interest in not being treated as things and yet are treated as things on the basis of morally irrelevant criteria. To deny animals this basic right simply because they are animals is like saying that we should not abolish race-based slavery because of the perceived inferiority of the slaves’ race. The argument used to support slavery and the argument used to support animal exploitation are structurally similar: we exclude beings with interests from the moral community because there is some supposed difference between ‘them’ and ‘us’ that has nothing to do with the inclusion of these beings in the moral community. The animal rights position maintains that if we believe that animals have moral significance, the principle of equal consideration requires that we stop treating them as things.” – Gary Francione [ https://www.facebook.com/abolitionistapproach ]
As for the health benefits, I don’t believe in it. Fish is unhealthy: http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2003nl/030200pufishisnothealthfood.htm ; dairy is also unhealthy: http://drmcdougall.com/misc/2007nl/mar/dairy.htm

Further comments about speciecism:
Do you see the words on the truck -- "Livestock Auction"?
When else, in human history, did we auction off sentient beings? Oh yeah. When we had chattel slavery. And the only difference is species which is not an acceptable criteria to justify treating others as commodities, to justify exploiting and killing others.

People eat meat, milk and eggs because of cultural indoctrination
For me it took almost 28 years to wake up from the cultural indoctrination that it is okay to use and treat animals as “commodities” and to take their life for animal products and an experience of "taste", and as for most people, what other people wrote helped me to wake up.
Cats, dogs, cows, insects, humans. Our society wants to make a difference and then justify our use, abuse and killing for taste, pleasure or convenience, based on this difference.
However, we are all one, we are all consciousness, we all love, we all feel, we are. If we sow suffering, we reap suffering. We all have a purpose, to serve, to be a light, not to hurt or use (all animal products and the treatment of animals as commodities are hurting animals). I highly recommend World Peace Diet by Will Tuttle, www.worldpeacediet.org
We should stop hurting our family. We should treat everyone with love, compassion and nonviolence, i.e. we should go vegan . We should treat others as we ourselves want to be treated. We shouldn’t kill and hurt animals for an experience of “taste”, since we don’t want to be hurt and killed for “taste”. More information at www.vegankit.com
We have no nutritional need at all for animal products: http://www.adelicatebalance.com.au/

“Ahimsa milk” is for violence towards animals. They are compromising animal rights and splitting families
“Ahimsa milk” is making cows pregnant against their will
each year, and they let the cows live a life that is not the life of freedom that
all animals deserve to live. They are completely distorting the beautiful
concept of Ahimsa – non-violence and compassion to all living beings. It is not
Ahimsa to use animals. The cow milk belongs to their calves. Calves needs their
calcium and should not be drained of her calcium by humans. The calves needs
and have the right to their mother – whom “Ahimsa milk” is talking from them
when they are small babies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcQ6yBEE5N0&feature=player_embedded
The milk industry and other usage of animals (also breeding
of dogs and other animals) are splitting families. Read more in this article
about the slavery that the animals get to live in because of that our society
looks upon them and treats them as “property” and sees it as a morally right
thing to do to steal their milk and using other animals in any other way. It is
compromising animal rights, health and well-being, including what they do both
on “no-kill” diary farms and other diary farms, that are the root to all animal abuse in the
world:
Milk is causing humans a vast amount of health problems,
including osteoporosis, diabetes and cancer:
Furthermore, the milk industry and other animal industry,
has a vast environmental impact and is causing poverty, starvation, a vast
amount of greenhouse-gases and subsequent deaths by droughts and floods because
of climate change: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fws0f9s4Bas&feature=em-uploademail
Please all persons reading this, be vegan. It is a very easy
decision (see www.vegankit.com ) to not live a life that is oppressing other sentient and
feeling beings. I became this autumn and I am doing much better both
physically, emotionally and spiritually – not to be a part of oppressing other
sentient beings. It is a very easy choice to stop being a part of the suffering
and death that our fellow precious animals are going through.
From their website: "New born calves are kept with their mothers for the first four to five days."
"Cows will give birth to calves once every two years, a maximum of 5 calves in a lifetime. This will take place both naturally through the use of a bull or sometimes by artificial insemination."
They are disregarding the rights of animals.
Animals have the right to their body and not to be milked against their will and not to be made pregnant against their will - just like a human mother. The right not to be drained of calcium.
They have the right to live with their mother ALL life, not only for four to five days.
All milk companies are disregarding the rights of cows.
If we love cows, we can't compromise their rights.
---
We better work for a vegan world, so that all animals can be free and be together with their families.
We shouldn't support businesses that compromise animal rights. It doesn't help the animals. It supports and promotes animal exploitation. What helps the animals is decreasing the demand of animal products by going vegan and inspiring others to do the same. This will reduce the number of animals being killed and hurt, and animals being used in other ways.
As long as people want to drink the cows milk, and people want to make a profit on exploiting the animals, they have to take the calves away from their mother. Otherwise the calves would drink the milk. The people are drinking the milk that belongs to the calves. It is not made for humans to drink or to use it to make cheese, it is made for the calves.

Veganism is --eating with love and compassion and disregarding any "taste buds" that promote violence, suffering and death to animals
If we think this is unethical:
However e.g. to mention that there are 600 million vegetarian persons (and he includes those who are eating eggs and milk in this definition), fails to address the death and suffering eating animals products causes other sentient beings:
[For anyone that is unaware of this: ]
If we think this is unethical:
Cows to be raped (impregnated against their will) every year (because a cow produces milk for 'only' a year), heavily abused, having their milk stolen, having their calves stolen the same day or some days after they conceive them (so that humans can get their milk) EVERY year, having the cows drained of calcium that they need, having their male calves (who where stolen from them :( ]slaughtered for "meat" being 6 months or 18 months old, having the "milk cows" being killed 5 years old because that they can't produce enough milk.
then we must stop causing this to occur by our dietary choices.
Animals life, purpose and health MUST be more important than our taste buds.
We can't just ignore this. Their life matters as much to them, as our life matters to us. They want to live as much as we want to live. They don't want to be abused as we don't want to be abused.
This is a wonderful movie with cows (non gory): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vcQ6yBEE5N0
Animals have the right to be free and not to be enslaved. I really recommend this article: http://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/what-are-the-roots-of-freedom-and-slavery/
If you research e.g. the website www.vegankit.com you will understand that any kind of animal use is wrong, and that it perpetuates the status of animals as "property", which is the cause of the most horrendous physical animal abuses. If you understand this you can in no way participate in any kind of use of animal, since you are both confining and exploiting an animal and are perpetuating the "property"-status of animals, with all of its negative consequences.

Growing plant-based foods in ones own land is a great idea!
Regarding the cows:
How could we take something from someone else that doesn't belong to us, e.g. milk?
How could we impregnate an individual against her will (regardless of species)l?
How could we drain someone on the calcium that she needs (regardless of species)?
How could we separate a mother from her calf - which is done in all milk operations? Furthermore, no one affords to feed all the cows (one more calf per year, because of making the cow pregnant, so that humans can get more milk), so male calves are sent to slaughter (or in a non-kill operation, which is extremely rare, they are used in other ways, perpetuating the "animal as property"-notion, which is the cause of all suffering humans impose on animals in this world.
Except for all of the suffering, pain, slavery and death that is inflicted on the animals -- which is never ethical and can never be justified by any means - ALL diary operations (and operations with other animal products) (and grass-fed cows are having a bigger environmental impact because of that they release more methane gas) are having a huge environmental impact and is causing poverty, starvation and huge global warming, which will cause a vast amounts of droughts and floods with many more people and other animals killed:
See also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fws0f9s4Bas&feature=em-uploademail
The plant-based foods that the more than 56 billion land animals (who have the sadly misfortune to grow up to become someones food - and this include "milk cows") brutally slaughtered each year eats could feed more than 9 billion people.
6 million children are dieing of starvation in the world each year. Hundreds of millions don't get enough food. If we care of them we must let our eating habits reflect this. If everyone ate plant-based food, the food would suffice for everyone's need.
