Why are many persons cruel to human and other non-human animals?
I often try to think that what made a person become so destroyed that
he/she feels it is justified to inflict so much violence against another
sentient being; and lacks the capacity to feel empathy and love when it comes to the suffering of another individual.
I also think that if this person would have been taught love and
compassion from childhood, instead of violence and apathy towards other
individuals suffering that this person would have been completely
different.
If we hurt another being, we hurt ourselves. In
order to kill someone, we have to violate this individual's love and
wants, we have to crush hopes, destroy a family and friend
relationships; We have to sacrifice part of our inner love and
compassion; we have to say to ourselves that 'I don't care' in order to
take someone's purpose and life. And this has destroyed us, destroyed
our society. The reason why people inflict violence and suffering upon
others is the lack of empathy and love to others. If we instead would
reinforce love and empathy at each meal by living a vegan lifestyle,
instead of destroying parts of our love and empathy at each meal by
hurting and killing someone for 'convenience' or taste, we would surely
attain world peace. As long as we sow violence and wars by our eating
choices, our society and culture will be absorbed in violence and wars.
So the problem is that our society destroys a person so much. The
society inflicts violence upon a person, it teaches a person to practise
violence, and the person loses more of his/her innate love and
compassion. We will never reverse this destructive force and a persons
lack of empathy, by feeling and practising violence and hate --- in our
actions, speech and thoughts. If we feel violence in our heart, it will
also effect our actions, and it will make us less efficient in our vegan
advoacy. To show compassion, love and nonviolence in active vegan
education of those we meet is the only thing that can make a people
experience a revolution of their heart and go vegan.
That another one has abused an animal, doesn't justify a violent revenge action.
So when a person is hating and destryoing for other individuals, I
don't feel hate. I feel a deep sorrow for the individual that has been
hurt, and I also feel sorry for the individual that has been destroyed
by the choices that our society to a large extent has enforced upon that
individual. Of course we are all responsible for our choices.... But I
know that the person would have been totally different if we had lived
in a completely vegan society with no discrimination at all - not
against humans and not against nonhuman animals.
We have all
been destroyed to a large extent, and more than 99% of the population
still is regularly making non-vegan choices, hurting and killing animals
on a regular basis. Our non-vegan friends are condemning dog abusers,
but are abusing animals themselves: http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/a-note-about-michael-vick/

All discrimination is morally wrong - discrimination against women, against homosexuals, against animals, etc.
What is important in this world
is: “all breathing, existing, living, sentient creatures should not be
slain, nor treated with violence, nor abused, nor tormented, nor driven
away.”
A person's sexual orientation isn't related to ethics and writing negatively about homosexuality has caused lots of suffering and violence and lots of discrimination and still do.
"Speciesism is wrong because it’s like racism, sexism, heterosexism, etc., which also involve focusing on an irrelevant criterion (race or sex or sexual orientation or whatever) to justify not according equal consideration."

------
Speciesism is morally objectionable *because* it's like racism, sexism, heterosexism, and other forms of discrimination in that all discrimination involves devaluing the interests of others for morally irrelevant reasons--be the particular reason race, sex, sexual orientation/preference, or species. So to say that you regard using species to devalue the interests of sentient beings as bad but you have no view about the use of race, sex, or sexual orientation/preference to devalue the interests of others makes no sense. In order for your objection to speciesism to be coherent, you must oppose the use of all morally irrelevant criteria to devalue the interests of others.

PETA endorses Burger King's "Veggie" burger, which contains milk, eggs and animal exploitation
Hello Jill,
“Thank you for your post and for the links that you shared. I would be happy to share some links with you, too! Best wishes,”
Thanks! Best wishes to you also!
I understand that you sincerely believe in PETA and their methods.
I don’t have the time to comment everything you write at the moment, but I would like to comment your statement:
“Because of PETA, even Burger King now has a "BK Veggie" burger!.”
It contains eggs and milk.
PETA promotes Burger King and their animal exploitation-burger under their section ‘Eating Vegan at Fast Food Chain Restaurants ‘ and they are celebrating and promoting Burger King for what certainly is animal exploitation.
So PETA’s supporters will believe that they are helping the animals by [lacto-ovo]-“vegetarianism”, which is a label that makes people feel good about exploiting animals, skipping the meat, but still exploiting animals by consuming milk and eggs. Calling milk and eggs and label it vegetarian or veggie is certainly normalizing the animal exploitation - labelling it as being the same as "veggies" [vegetables].
Some other problems with PETA:
PETA gives awards to various vendors of “happy” meat and animal products;
PETA, along with other animal groups, has enthusiastically endorsed the Whole Foods “Animal Compassionate” program/label;
PETA gave an award in 2004 to Temple Grandin, the designer of “happy” slaughter houses and what Grandin calls the “stairway to heaven” system of slaughter;
PETA announces and then calls off boycotts of institutional animal users such as Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King and praises those companies for their supposed concern for animal welfare;
PETA praises McDonald’s as “actually ‘leading the way’ in reforming the practices of fast-food suppliers, in the treatment and the killing of its beef and poultry.”
To say that this does not constitute support for “happy” or “humane” exploitation is simply not correct.

How do vegans look at road kill, abandoned eggs and dumpster diving?
I am frequently asked whether it is “vegan” to eat “road kill,” the
abandoned eggs of hens who are kept as companions, or animal products
that you find in a dumpster.
The short answer: no.
The explanation: Although these activities do not contribute directly to demand for animal products, they are deeply problematic as a symbolic matter. They reinforce the idea that animal products are things to consume; they reinforce the idea that animals are things, are human resources; they reinforce the social practice of consuming animals; they reinforce demand even if they don’t contribute directly to it.
But what if no one sees you do these things? In that case, you are not engaging in any activity that symbolizes anything to anyone because no one observes it or knows about it. You are not reinforcing demand.
But you observe; you know about it. You are participating in the act of consuming animals; a ritual that has no meaning apart from the speciesist celebration that animals are things to exploit.
Being vegan means that you reject the notion that animals are things for us to consume. They are not commodities; they are not resources.
They are not food any more than a human arm that you find in the dumpster.
We would never think of eating a human. Humans are moral persons. We don’t eat persons. But nonhumans are persons as well. They have moral value. Their bodies and the products made from them are not things we eat, even if we find them dead along the road way or in a dumpster, or even if they abandon their eggs.
*****
If you are not vegan, please go vegan. Veganism is about nonviolence. First and foremost, it’s about nonviolence to other sentient beings. But it’s also about nonviolence to the earth and nonviolence to yourself.

behandlas.
Men
slaveri. Det är ingen skillnad med djur.
Citat:
“Domestic animals are dependent on us for when and whether they eat,
whether they have water, where and when they relieve themselves, when
they sleep, whether they get any exercise, etc. Unlike human children,
who, except in unusual cases, will become independent and functioning
members of human society, domestic animals are neither part of the
nonhuman world nor fully part of our world. They remain forever in a
netherworld of vulnerability, dependent on us for everything that is of
relevance to them. We have bred them to be compliant and servile, or to
have characteristics that are actually harmful to them but are pleasing
to us. We may make them happy in one sense, but the relationship can
never be “natural” or “normal.” They do not belong stuck in our world
irrespective of how well we treat them.”
