Haley Moscoso,
It is not overwhelming, it is easy. Your mind fools you if it tells you that it is hard, and if you consider peer-pressure and other pressures of the world.
And if you think it is overwhelming, think about the animals who must suffer and die if you don't go vegan right away, and also if you don't do put your time and effort to inspire other people to go vegan.
It is hard to ourselves and to others and injust to oppress animals by our choices. If we want to be free, we can't cause other to lives in slavery. If we want to find our purpose, we can't steal animals purpose. If we want a peaceful life, we can't cause animals distress.
"Plus if I just hand my parents a huge list of groceries I need they won't be as likely to support me."
You only need fruits, vegetables and legumes (I recommend this website: http://www.drmcdougall.com/ ). If you explain to them you can inspire them to also go vegan. If you cook your food yourself, a vegan diet is much cheaper than a diet based on animal foods and of course the only compassionate and loving choice to our fellow humans and other animals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PkQrJZYZN4
If we love animals, we can't compromise their life, health and freedom.
For me it took sometime to transition, but this was because I was unaware of the pain, suffering and death my non-vegan choices caused to other animals. It is never just to continue to oppress another being - regardless of it is a human or another animal.
There are no excuses. Excuses help neither you, people suffering of the injustice caused by our oppression of other animals and the suffering and dieing animals.
