Some person claimed that we shouldn't feel sad if a person exploiting animals on a regularly basis die. All non-vegans are exploiting animals on a regularly basis for palatable pleasure/convenience.
Despite
that I for a long time have tried to live a moral life, it took me
almost 28 years to realize that it is wrong to kill animals for food,
and that veganism is a necessity for an ethical lifestyle. If I would
have encountered arguments like this, I think I would have become a
vegan much quicker: http://articles.philly.com/2009-08-14/news/24986151_1_atlanta-falcons-quarterback-vick-illegal-dog-dog-fights
I
think that the death of a sentient being always is sad, including the
death of humans. I think that we can love someone despite the violence
that that person is causing to others, and causing to himself or
herself. I would e.g. mourn if someone died of my non-vegan family or
friends. I don’t think it attracts our non-vegan friends to claim we
shouldn't feel sad if they would die. I really hope it isn’t true that
we wouldn’t be sad.
For
me veganism has led me to feel more love and empathy to animals,
including humans, on this planet. Of course I am deeply saddened by the
exploitation my non-vegan friends are inflicting upon the animals, and
their inability to demonstrate love and empathy toward the animals that
they choose to exploit for animal products, but I can still love them.

Vegan answer to 'Humans are omnivorous by evolution'/'eating meat is natural'
'Nilan,
“Human are omnivorous by evolution, morality doesn't even come into play here. As a species, criticizing us for consuming meat is as futile as calling bears or crows "immoral" for eating meat.”
No, humans have a choice and can thrive on a vegan diet. We’re eating animal products despite the lack of “necessity”. We are killing and hurting animals despite that we can live and thrive on a vegan diet.
Regardless of whether we have evolved to be able to eat animal products, doesn’t tell whether it is moral or not.
We have evolved to have the capacity to inflict unnecessary violence upon other beings e.g. humans, this doesn’t morally justify unnecessary violence.
Also the statement that we are “omnivores” is flawed. We eat animal products despite having the body of an herbivore.
Humans have evolved to eat meat and paleo-people consumed a lot of meat.
Quite the opposite is true.
Humans have no known anatomical, physiological, or genetic adaptations to meat consumption.
We have many adaptations to plant consumption.
Vitamin C is found in plants. We can’t make it ourselves such as carnivores.

Equality for all humans and other animals
I like this quote: "Today is the day that we celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King stood for two important and fundamental values: nonviolence and equality.
Forty-two years after Dr. King was murdered, we are still a nation of inequality. People of color, women, gays, lesbians, and others are still treated as second-class citizens. Yes, things have changed but we have still not achieved equality among all humans. And nonhuman animals continue to be chattel property without any inherent value.
Forty-two years after Dr. King was murdered, we still see violence as the solution for every problem. We have still not yet learned that violence is the problem; it is not the solution to the problem.
We should take a few minutes to meditate today on the notions of equality and nonviolence. We should resolve to make Dr. King’s dream a reality. In the end, his dream is the only thing that will redeem our reality."
All sentient beings have an equal right not to be treated as commodities, not to be hurted, not to be used, not to be enslaved, not to be killed (for food, clothing, or any other reason), not have their products stolen (e.g. milks and eggs)..

Vegan, vegetarian, evolution? Humans are herbivores
Nicolle,
I believed before what you do believe now.
“Being a vegan is something I would consider ..” Thanks!
“I don't mean to make people angry, it is just a personal opinion”
Don’t worry. I won’t become angry. I believed like you did for almost 28 years. We eat meat because of our cultural indoctrination. That we can justify killing another sentient being, who values his/her life as much as we value our own life, for “taste”, habit, tradition or convenience, is something that we do because we have been bombarded with this propaganda since we were born. Anthropology shows that our ancestors mainly ate a starch based-diet. Some hunted some of their food. At least some of our ancestors. At some point humans decided that it was right to kill another sentient being, maybe someone moved to a cold place and did it for survival. We don’t know. However, we do know, that humans to a large degree follow their ancestors behaviors based on our cultural indoctrination.
We can’t look at other species, and justify our behavior, just because there are predators that hurt and kill other beings. There are many behaviors that some predators do that we would never justify, and if we use this methodology almost any human behavior can be justified. We could justify cannibalism with the same argument, but we have evolved and do understand that it is morally wrong to kill other human beings.
Put a small bunny in the same room as a small child. She will not try to hurt and kill the bunny. Hurting and killing other sentient beings is something that is contradictory to our inner nature, our loving, compassionate and nonviolent nature; and is something that is only learnt by the indoctrination of our culture, which has reduced animals to being commodities. Doing this as a regular habit, we disconnect ourselves to the animals, and we lose some of our capacity to understand that it is wrong to take the life of another being - who is consciousness just like us. Just because they have been given another body than us, doesn't mean that there is any essential difference. This is also discussed in the wonderful book World Peace Diet by Will Tuttle (www.worldpeacediet.org). If you visited a slaughterhouse you would see that the animals don’t want to die and that they suffer tremendously when someone is taking their precious life. Can’t we respect this. Can’t we respect their lives, their purposes, their families and their friend relationships?

Christianity, religion, the Bible, God and veganism?
Hello again Debbie,
Why would the gorilla who is a complete herbivore have canines that are much sharper than ours?
Why would God create a desire in the animals to live and a want not to be killed by humans, if that is the purpose of the animals?
Why would a Loving and Compassionate God, act against the love and compassion of the animals - who don't want to get killed by humans?
Why would a Loving and Compassionate God create misery and suffering in animals and their families, by allowing us to kill them and eat them?
Why would God command humans to be vegan in Genesis 1:26, showing how He wants people to live?? And this was before the "fall".
Why would our anathomy be the anathomy of a herbivore?
Why are animal products bad for our physical health if we are supposed to eat them, and causes cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and other diseases?
Humans having the body of an herbivore [see footnote 1], animal products being bad for us [2], and us having not nutritional need at all for animal products [3], claiming that we are a predator is an erroneous statement. Just like the gorillas, cows and horses and many other animals we are herbivores. Just like cows, we can eat meat, however it is not good for our body, and not good for us spiritually [4].

Healthy vegans get more protein than they need
“The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that men and women obtain 5% of their calories as protein. This would mean 38 grams of protein for a man burning 3000 calories a day and 29 grams for a woman using 2300 calories a day. This quantity of protein is impossible to avoid when daily calorie needs are met by unrefined starches and vegetables. For example, rice alone would provide 71 grams of highly usable protein and white potatoes would provide 64 grams of protein.” John A. McDougall, MD
------------
Dr. John McDougall har skrivit följande peer-reviewade artikel som bl.a. innehåller detta citat:
"William Rose and his colleagues completed research by the spring of 1952 that determined the human requirements for the 8 essential amino acids.2 They set as the “minimum amino acid requirement” the largest amount required by any single subject and then they doubled these values to make the “recommended amino acid requirement,” which was also considered a “definitely safe intake.” By calculating the amount of each essential amino acid provided by unprocessed complex carbohydrates (starches and vegetables)3 and comparing these values with those determined by Rose,1 the results show that any single one or combination of these plant foods provides amino acid intakes in excess of the recommended requirements. Therefore, a careful look at the founding scientific research and some simple math prove it is impossible to design an amino acid–deficient diet based on the amounts of unprocessed starches and vegetables sufficient to meet the calorie needs of humans. Furthermore, mixing foods to make a complementary amino acid composition is unnecessary.4
The reason it is important to correct this misinformation is that many people are afraid to follow healthful, pure vegetarian diets—they worry about “incomplete proteins” from plant sources. A vegetarian diet based on any single one or combination of these unprocessed starches (eg, rice, corn, potatoes, beans), with the addition of vegetables and fruits, supplies all the protein, amino acids, essential fats, minerals, and vitamins (with the exception of vitamin B12) necessary for excellent health. To wrongly suggest that people need to eat animal protein for nutrients will encourage them to add foods that are known to contribute to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and many forms of cancer, to name just a few common problems.5"

False argument: Hominid ancestors ate meat, thus humans should also
With greater understanding comes greater responsibility.
We must consider the improved capabilities that we have compared to other of our Creator's creations, and use them wisely and with love and compassion.
We have the capability of reasoning about whether it is ethical to take the life of another of our Creator's sapient being and this responsibility shouldn't be taking lightly.
To without any evidence assume a religious book, or assume what anyone else teaches about moral including killing sapient beings, to be correct isn't using all of the capabilities that we have.
How can we assume that the Creator wants us to prematurely take the life of His other sapient beings? Who gave us this right? We do not own them and we don't own their life.
