So there are two options,
Either a religious book acknowledges that it is an atrocity to kill any sentient being – including the animals; or it endorses the murder of a sentient being by leaving e.g. animals or some people groups (of the human animal species) out of the 'Don't kill'-commandment.
If a religion is endorsing the murder of a sentient being it is against the Loving and Compassionate Life-giver and Creator of this universe.
The person eating meat completely disregards another being's feelings, emotions and free will to live the life that he/she was given. That person completely ignores the pain, suffering and death of the animal; and the pain and suffering of the animal's family.
"The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them, that is the essence of inhumanity."
George Bernard Shaw, (1856 - 1950) Irish Playwright and Essayist, Nobel Laureate for Literature 1925
"Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man."
Arthur Schopenhauer, (1788 - 1860) German Philosopher
"My doctrine is this: If we see cruelty that we have the power to stop, and we do nothing, we make ourselves sharers in the guilt."
Anna Sewell, (1820 - 1877) English Author of "Black Beauty."
