It is all connected. We sow violence towards the animals and reap violence between humans and fellow humans.
I recommend this article: http://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/what-are-the-roots-of-freedom-and-slavery/
“From
the very beginning of animal agriculture ten thousand years ago, when
our forebears first enslaved wild sheep and goats for meat, milk, and
products, it has brought out the worst in us. It was a small and
inevitable step from enslaving animals to then enslaving the fellow
humans who were defeated in the first wars our planet ever saw, driven
by, as Gavyaa, the first word for war we know of, indicates. It means
“the desire for more cattle.””
I believe in non-violence. The solution is never wars.
"Mahavir
taught that “all breathing, existing, living, sentient creatures should
not be slain, nor treated with violence, nor abused, nor tormented, nor
driven away.” This is the only moral or spiritual principle that we
need to know. If we live by this principle, we will be at peace with
ourselves and the world will be at peace. Whatever our religious
tradition may be, let us celebrate Mahavir Jayanti 2011 by recommitting
ourselves to a simple but profound idea that all may embrace: Ahimsa."
